Bananthi Pudi

Bananthi Pudi
"Bananthi Pudi" is an excellent postpartum/post pregnancy food. It is made of cumin seeds(jeerige), fennel seeds(saunf), carom seeds(ajwain/ om kaLu) and pepper corns(meNasu).

Traditionally new mothers are served this particular spice blend to improve the digestion of both the new born and the mother. It reduces flatulence and acidity in mothers of new borns.

The new mother starts her meals by mixing about 1 tsp of this powder with a morsel of cooked rice and a dash of ghee. When breast feeding mothers of colicky babies consume this dish regularly, it helps soothe the baby to a certain extent.
